For my magazine is directly at the
bottom of the cover with the issue number, barcode and the price. The slogan
for my magazine reads: ‘to learn more about Wyke read on’. Straight away this
grabs the attention of the students making them curious of what the college has
to offer for itself and on the exclusive main stories. ‘In The Know’ was what I
chose to call my college magazine. I wanted the masthead to be simple but
memorable.
The colour scheme is Green and
Black, which works alongside the college’s logo. The green is a bold and bright
colour whereas the black is subtle making the colours contrast and standout.
The Titles, masthead, slogans, subheadings.. etc all have the same house style and font, making it easier for the reader to understand and making the magazine look more grown up and professional.

The layout of the magazine is
simple. The main image shows a student at the college. Here I have made
contrasts between 2 colours, first being black and white: the background of the
college. Secondly, colour, the college student is standing out from the rest of
the scenery. Through this I have tried to bring across the atmosphere of the
student and the college.
I have tried to style the thumbnail
images in the same way as the background image, through having some as black
and white, and some in colour.
Institutions
The students at the college and
those who would be interested in joining within the next year, I would
distribute my college magazine to this audience. The students would probably
like to keep up with the news, the latest updates and main stories about the
college keeping them in the know and discovering what’s new
On the other hand, the students that
will be finishing there secondary school after there exams would also
be interested. They will want to
know what Wyke has to offer them that other colleges don’t, and whether it’s
the right college for them. It will have all the information they would want
and more.
Ideology
The message that I am trying to put
through from my magazine is that Wyke is a completely different college to
other colleges.
It has a new and fresh feel, and
makes you feel like you fit in. The college itself, has a wide range of
subjects and support to offer to everyone.
The idea is to show what Wyke has to
offer, and what it’s really like, showing the positives, highlights, and the
College.
Audience
The Target audience I chose to aim
my magazine at are 15-25 year old (mainly students at colleges and secondary
schools), and the Socio-economic group D&E.
I tried to make the images for my
magazine speak for themselves about my college to my target audience.
A student’s life should be fun and
enjoyable, and going to a college should be part of that fun and enjoyment.
However trying to show this to a target audience which wants to either start
fresh at a new college from an old one, and for those that are finishing school
and starting there new life at college isn’t easy.
So I tried to make the layout of the
magazine, the house style etc, more in line with this target group.
Representation
The idea of my college magazine was
to represent what Wyke is really about. It’s a fun, but hard working,
successful college that opens there arms out to everyone
The images I have presented don’t
show a stereotypical student working hard at a college. Instead I chose ones
which show the highlights and joys of the college within the students. I
haven’t shown the negative sides to teenagers to which have names placed upon
them, but the fact that everyone is equal in their own unique and quirky way.
I have also tried to show that the
college takes pride and interest in the students and work they present, by
making them the main stories and interests for the magazine.
